During the first visit Dr. Dawkins will go over your specific conditions and perform a physical exam to determine the exact cause of the problem. Then it will be explained to you in plain English. If the condition is something we can treat we will begin therapy as soon as possible. If it is not a chiropractic issue, you will be referred to the appropriate health professional. Usually the treatment can begin on the same day the initial assessment is performed. Occasionally x-rays or other testing is required before treatment can begin. Every patient receives a customized treatment that is explained after the assessment. Typically the treatments may include gentle, hands-on adjustments, muscle stretching/stripping, therapeutic electric stimulation, and exercises/stretches. The goal of the treatment is always to relieve the pain and symptoms as quickly as possible. And to make sure the problem does not reoccur. On your first visit, you will be asked to fill out an initial health history form. Cassy or Carlie will then go through your history, perform an assessment and go over what the treatment will include. This will include what to wear, how much pressure will be applied, the areas of the body that will be treated and what techniques will be used. Appropriate draping is applied so that only the body part being worked on is exposed. Massage therapy can also be done directly over the clothing if you are not comfortable.
